My '01 averages around 17 mpg unless I'm showing off. Pulling the bass boat or not. If I find the firewall I can see 4 mpg but I rarely try to waste money. I'd like to get better mpg without *****-footing but I've a long way to go. Seems anything over 2200 rpm cruise starts sucking stinky food to shoot out the pipes...
I'm the same way Trey. I've always wondered why everyone's in so much of a hurry around here, I think New England has some of the worst drivers I've ever seen. I like to cruise around 68 MPH most of the time.
As I get older, I think the rules of the road have changed and I have not kept up. When I was young, the rule most people talked about was you could drive 5mph over the posted limit and you would be good. Back in the day, plenty of cops insuring that this limit was kept.
In my area, seems like 10-12mph over the limit is the rule with almost no cops enforcing anything. They seem to only be around to clean-up accidents. Cops have it rough, I know.
Locally, I drive 6mph over the limit and on the freeway 7mph over the limit and am never the fastest on the road. Again, I think the rules of the road have changed and I have not kept up. At times, so many are driving so fast, I feel like I'm in the way.
I am also the last person on the road leaving a gap between myself and the car ahead.

brruce...
I used to work in Hudson and travel to Milwaukee with work frequently. Seems like any major city really makes people drive like crap. I'd argue that those out here are worse than you see even in the Milwaukee area though. I'd guess a good 8/10 accidents out here are rear enders from people tailgating. Just doesn't make sense to me.
We're trying to get them to move us back to Wisconsin, we really miss it up there.

-8 on my way in to work today. Cold, cold, cold here today. Packer game on Sunday is 120 miles to the north of me. Can't wait to watch another Ice Bowl. Hope my team wins but Dallas looks tough.
I had one additional thought on the quality of driving these days. The invention of the football helmet has increased the amount of violence in the game of football. Awesome brakes, turbochargers, multiple airbags, seat belts, child safety seats, radial tires, AWD, 4 Wheel drive, crumple zones, crash tests all make modern vehicles better and safer than 1960-70 vehicles. Back in the 60's and 70's if there was a major crash, death was almost certain. Lap belts, no rear belts, poor brakes made people aware of the danger of driving. Are safer cars and trucks making people drive all that much harder. By taking the fear of death out of driving do people drive even harder? Seems like it to me.
