Read this post about a 2015' F-250 MPG. Anyone here have this newer model and what's your response?
Basically they redesigned the turbo and it is much more responsive at lower RPM, so when you are cruising at freeway speeds (75-85 MPH) the Turbo is providing boost. I am averaging 12.4 MPG! 12.4 MPG the 2014 by comparison is nearer to 20 MPG at those speeds.
75-85 MPH you get 12.4 MPG or less!
I am really disappointed that they did not reconfigure the overdrive gears to lower highway RPM and accommodate the low RPM boost. @ 85 mph you are @ 2k RPM. The truck enters 6th gear at 50 MPH.
I am sure you will see this change by 2016. You will see a lot of these posts soon
At 85mph a couple hundred RPM in the engine doesn't really matter, you're shoving a brick wall through the air and drag increases with the square of velocity. Speed takes power, power takes fuel, going faster requires more power. High speed in a truck =/= good mpg, ever.

I have a brand new 2015 with less than a 1000 miles on it. I'm getting 15-16MPG on the highways here in Colorado @ 6,000-7,000 feet of altitude. I was hoping for a bit more but not "upset" with what I'm getting so far.

It's been a couple of years since I've had it, but my 3.55-geared 2011 would sure as heck NEVER get 20 MPG between 75-85 MPH. It would be closer to 15-16 at very best.
So just to be clear, you had a 2014 model that consistently gave you better fuel economy than the 2015 model you currently have?

BINGO....
And I have to ask WTH are you doing running 85 MPH? Where in the USA can you do these speeds legally and safely on public highways?
That's anecdotal at very best. We have a few very satisfied 2015 6.7L owners down in the 6.7L forum, and they are reporting comparable fuel economy to the 2011-14 models.
Remember, 75-85 is not what most people (especially auto manufacturers) consider freeway speeds for economy testing. Or at all. I think I've gone 90 once. And that was by accident. I was aiming for 80 which I've only done a handful of times.
I find it better to leave 5-10 minutes earlier and go 55-65. Reduces driving stress and improves MPG. I just tuck away with the trucks and enjoy the drive
Not the same engine, but for comparison I notice a sharp drop off in economy from 65-75. At 65ish I can get 17-18mpg per tank on my commute. At 80 (which I do more frequently than before) I get 14mpg.
I'm the same way Trey. I've always wondered why everyone's in so much of a hurry around here, I think New England has some of the worst drivers I've ever seen. I like to cruise around 68 MPH most of the time.
My 6.7L F350 would get around 19-20 MPG at those speeds, and my F150 would do about 20-21. Above 70 and either of them would be down 2-3 MPG. It affects more than just trucks; my Prius is down a good 10 MPG from 65 to 75.
Recently traded my 2013 f350 platinum for a 2015 plat., at first I was disappointed with mileage on my 15' but now that I have 8,000kms on it (5000miles) I find its improving. More power = more fuel consumption.
Just got my 15 about a week ago. First road trip was today and according to the on board I was getting a bit over 16 until I turned into a hard wind. Then it dropped to 14.8. After getting to my destination and topping off I ran the numbers by hand. I came up with 14.7 averaging around 74 mph. I'm happy with these numbers and know I should a bit better as the engine gets broke in. Combo of intown and highway on the last tank had me at 12.4 hand calculated.
And Idaho and Utah, where posted freeway speed limits are 80, and everyone drives 5 over. These are LONG, STRAIGHT stretches of pavement we're talking about -- hundreds of miles. I don't drive my truck at those speeds very often. But my wife's Pilot...all the time.
