OK today a buddy and I got into a argument. It started after I said I would like to make my truck 4wd. He says for the time and effort just buy one, or just find a 4wd frame and use that because my 2wd frame wouldnt work. Then I thought back to all the threads I had back home proving him wrong that I have saved. Now that Im home and Im going through all those saved threads they are all guys swapping from ttb to sas. So I did a little research and now Im not sure. I could use some clear information if it is possible to put a solid axle under a 2wd truck. I have always been under the impression that all you need to do Is lift it 4in to clear the crossmember and your good to go or am I mistaken?
The TTB front axle is a bolt-in since it is native to this series of truck but even then you have to replace most of the powertrain including the trans, the complete front axle assembly, add a T-case and install both driveshafts. That is a lot of wrenching on the ground under the truck so it makes more sense IMO and is probably quicker to just put your body on a complete 4x4 roller chassis or.... just buy a 4x4 truck.
