76 2wd to 4wd conversion

Here's the deal. I've had a 76' F100 2wd since Highschool, that is in near perfect condition. I'll never be able to part with it but have always wanted a 76 highboy. To solve the problem I've located a 75' highboy (body junk) and plan to make 1 good 4wd truck out of the 2.

Here is the 1st of many questions I'll have; should I start with the 4wd frame and plan to put the 2wd frame on it or should I plan to swap all the suspensions brackets from the 4wd to the 2wd?

If your 76 F100 is that nice I wouldn't tear it apart. I would save my money and buy a running one they can be found at reasonable prices. There is a lot of work relocating brackets from a 4WD frame to a 2WD.I'm not saying it can't be done, just easier to buy a 4X4

Thanks Supersnake, but I've already got 2 trucks and don't need 3. The 76 I can't part with, but need the 4wd. So regardless of how nice it is now, it will look even better when I'm done.

Since the F250 has leaf spings and the 150 has coils up front, swaping the suspension and drivetrain is not going to be an easy task. Steering and the larger x-member on the 2wd will prove to be a hassle if you dont intend to lift it over 6 inches. This is also true for the divorced transfer case. While the divorced case is the easiest to swap doing so is not the all its cracked up to be. Since the 75 has everything in tact, it will be much easier to swap cabs and sheetmetal.

Thanks for the input! I'm fully aware that this will not be a weekend task. I plan to do this over the summer/fall and want to start with the frame and running gears and do a frame up.
With swapping the sheet metal how much additional clearance will I need for the center hump in the cab? I noticed the hump in the 4wd is higher than the 2wd.

Its only the trans tunnel. Cabs are identical other than this. The 4wd's have a removable trans tunnel.
I have a 2wd cab on a 75 4x4 that I own, so I know that this will work.

I take it the tunnels can be swapped out to make it work then. Good news. So that and adding the clutch pedal is all I'll have to do.
