NEED HELP FROM FORUM.

Hello,

I'm new to this forum, and I have a few questions.
I'm 16, and I get my G2 In October, and i have been try to chose between two trucks, a 1999-2003 F250 7.3L SD 4x4 either SuperCab or Crew Cab as i dont like reg cab for room reasons, i need the back seats.

The other option is 2005-2007 F-150 Supercrew 5.4L XLT or FX4. I would be making upgrades upgrades (Grill guards, Back racks, Lights, Lifts, flares etc.) I would be towing, Mostly 1-3 dirtbikes in the bed as well as a trailer, ATVs, Snowmobiles, (Driftcar/fieldcars on a car trailer--- 1-2 times a year max) and maybe a 26' Horse trailer about 2-4 times a year. But this truck would mostly be a daily driver around my city, from my house to school is about a 5-10 minute drive, but would be driving anywhere from 50-400kms on the weekends.

I love and want the diesel because of the towing power, sound, the bigger frame and look and the MPG is better with the diesel fuel and the stronger frame for lifting the truck, but is it worth all the trouble of EGR and DPF, regen cycles and all the plugging in and stuff.

Average Price/Kms

1999-2003 F-250 SD 7.3 4X4 - 4000-8000$ - 300,000-600,000kms
2005-2007 F-150 5.4L 4X4 or XLT - 4000-6500$ 150,000-230,00kms

I need your opinions,

Thank You

I'll correct you.... With the 7.3 there us nine of that emissions crap. No egr, dpf or regen. They are the last preemission diesel from Ford.

The supercab on the F-250 is only passable as a backseat for people. IMO. It is smaller than the supercab on an F-150. A crewcab on either is much more preferable. I believe the bed rail to rail is bigger on the f-250 for the dirtbikes and such. Between the wheelwells is roughly the same though.

I think the bed on the F-150 supercrew will be 5.5ft, but the bed on the crewcab f-250 will be 6.5 feet it also came in a longbed 8ft.

A diesel will cost you more in gas and in purchase and repairs, but is far more capable than the 5.4L.

If you thinking about the diesels go to each of the forums
and read the Tech Folder and see what is needed to make each
run and give you the best from it.
Also some are going to poo,poo on this. But also
check out the 6.0. The EGR cooler is easy to remove along
with the Kat. Yes you do have some Emissions to deal with
but no regen and exhaust fluid. Also while it is not as new as
the 6.4 or 6.7. It is a newer platform than the 7.3

Here are some links to each forum. Have a look at each tech Folder.
That should give you info on the what and why.

Good luck and welcome to FTE

The good ole days

I would take a 7.3 over the 6.0 hands down, There is no emissions to worry about, aftermarket parts are everywhere and cheaper than the newer models, you will lose fuel economy over the 5.4 around town but when you start towing the diesel will win. Yes the diesel frames are stronger, axle's, cooling systems just about everything and you dont have to worry about breaking sparkplugs and replacing COP everytime it rains.

Thank you all for the quick relpies.

I live about an hour south of toronto, and I was wonder if down here we need E-tests done on the diesels? And what kind of test would it be?
And around here the only F-250s for sale are the supercabs, as I am buying used I have no choice in the matter of picking so it would only be supercab, whereas the F-150 would be supercrew. And can you legally straightpipe/smoke stack the diesel? Or would it be better to just keep it as stock as possible?
