Does P0401 code hurt anything ?
Frequently (pretty much every time) when towing I get a CEL and a P0401 code which is insufficient EGR flow.
I NEVER get this code unless I'm towing but usually after an hour or so of towing it will come on and stay on until the trailer is disconnected and I've driven without it for 50 miles or so.
My question is: Does the ECU do anything when it sees this code? Does it defuel, or cut performance in any way ? I've been treating it as a nuisance code and pretty much ignoring it, as the truck seems to run the same whether it's on or off.

Basically you'll see worse mpg.
Clean the EGR valve and IAT2 sensor and check the passenger up pipe for leaks.
