Im about to pull the trigger and trade my 08 in for an 11. The 11 is a XLT 6.2 4x4 Ex cab, one owner that was serviced from day one at this dealer so I have its history. Has 38K on the clock and appears to be in great shape clean car fax too.
My question is what should I be looking for as far as problems on an 11?
Im well versed on the 08-10s quirks.
The one and only reason Im trading is the rear quarters and bed supports are starting top pop and I dont want to chase the rust.
Any advice is appreciated on this newer design.
Anyone know if my 08 extang cover will fit the bed of this 11?
From what I understand, Radiators have been a problem on this series truck.
Don't know about the cover, but odds are that it would fit if it is a tonneau cover. The Toppers won't interchange because of the redesigned tailgate.
The radiator issue is on the 6.7's, not the gasser.
Some 2011's had issues with the transmissions. There was a TSB to replace solenoids, etc that seemed to have cured most. Take it on a good test drive to see how it shifts, see if there is any steering oscillation when going over bumps, etc.
The tailgate changes I believe began in '08 so if both the '08 and the '11 have or don't have the fold-down step your topper ( extang cover?? ) should be OK.
If the '11 has original shocks you may want to upgrade them.
Thanks guys...3 things the newer one doesnt have is the back-up assist, the lift gate and keyless. The 08 has those. Really will miss them especially the gate, but it is what it is. The 11 has many options includin the electric rear locker and power tele/fold/heat mirrors, camper & chrome package. Tuxedo black, black/gray gut. I havent pulled the trigger yet goin to dealer for another look in the AM. I will beat them up one last time to see if we can make a deal. They dont wanta give me sheet for mine, shocker. I can always add the gate and back up assist. 38k and no rust. Loved the 08 but can say that about it. It was just startin to pop in the usual places so bye bye. Im not chasin the rust. And it was undercoated too but not until 47K.
Minke hopefully the extang should fit. let u know tomorrow if I come home with it. And of course I just tossed the 08s original shocks about 6 months ago...dam coulda swapped em back on! Knew I should have hung on to them. The bilsteins only have about 10K. Oh well Ill order up another set.
Good news as you can see from the avatar I pulled the trigger. The bed extender did fit as well as the extang bed cover. I had to tap the holes out for the extender but it was all there they just didnt tap the insert.

nice looking truck. I would coat all the rust prone areas with fluid film right away to help slow any rust that might have started already.
Thanks fordman, it stands out in a crowd with the metal flake black. One owner. Old guy 80. Serviced from day one at the dealer I bought it from. So I have a complete history and spoke to the previous owner.
Agreed on the rust control. Not sure if I want to do Sacrificial anode, Fluid film, LPS 2 or Ziebart? I did the Zeibart thing to the 08 but it was well on its way before the treatment which just encapsulated the rust and the tar like substance just peeled off exposing the rust for further deterioration.
Ziebart says under 42K they guarantee rust through for 10 years.
I'm thinking Sacrificial Anode and either fluid film or LPS2.
Thoughts welcome.
Definitely doing something.
Also have a 95 GC Jeep to take the bulk of the unseasonable weather. 20 year old jeep and its just starting to rot. It has the electric rust inhibitor from day one.
