E40D Rebuild

Hi everyone.
i live close to vancouver in canada.
needed to rebuild my E40D on my 93 f250. after asking a bit around i took my girl to a tranny shop.
he's done the job and asked me 3200 for the rebuild plus 400 to change my flywheel (they said that a couple of teeth where broken).
also intstalled an extra radiator to keep the temperature down.
everything with a 2 years warranty.
good or bad deal?

Seems a little on the steep side, but depends on what all the had to do, and what all they did. Others know way more about em than i do.

thats what i payed for mine in chip truck.however i knew what i was getting.make sure you do too.
for this $ i got:
the E40D reman with the latest updates all installed.
transgo tugger (shift kit.)
extra low stall (as per my request) billet cover, triple disc converter.
mine only came with a 1 yr warranty.i wasn't excited about this part, but the guy knew the trans well so i didn't sweat it.
the 4100's external bypass and updated 3/8's lines.
tru-cool aux cooler w/thermal bypass.

he assured me he does this to all the hd work trucks who haul/tow/plow in the obs and the 7.3l SD's w/4r100 they all get updated in the same manner and they last.

he said he can do more but the parts he would upgrade next would be overkill for the idi.....i agreed and went with his normal hd reman for the same $ you've been quoted.just ask questions and find out what your getting.the more details the better.

What is Ford's reasoning for using a 1700-2000 rpm stall speed converter on motor with 1600 peak torque. I may have the number wrong and the concept. I would expect you would want the stall speed to be on the meat of the torque curve which would likely be 1300 or 1400 to 2000 -2200 rpms . There is more HP at 1700 but if the goal is to put the engine to work where it is most efficient then staying close to peak torque would seam to be the better plan. What am I missing? Is the N/A IDI still considered lugging at peak torque?

I paid to much for my rebuilt e4od but real happy with the tranny, got the triple disk low stall converter, even when I didn't ask for it. its all he would use with Diesel engine. works Fantastic.
