maybe it contains prepetual motion instructions? Ebay is essentially useless since they've starting allowing people to list items for free IMO... At least
I think the sellers hope is that the occasional buyer who is not as prudent as others will do a search, find the highest priced item first, and buy it without a moment of second thought. You put 7 billion idiots on the same planet and this phenomena happens daily.
This is what happens when retail shelf space has no value.
The factory shop service manuals on CD with a built in search engine are real nice ..
As far as ebay goes I've found some really sweet deals there but as of late there is a lot of overpriced poor quality stuff showing up .. From a selling perspective people just don't seem to have the money to spend like they once did so traffic is way down IMO ..
I'v read an article on why this stuff happens. Basically 2 sellers pit up against one another raising the price through automatic systems. One buyer owns the manual and another seller plans to buy that one and raise the price up. The other seller program sees the higher price and automatically raises theirs to match the competition and earn more profit. The two sellers both have programs that auto adjust their settings jacking up the price. Until one of them notices that it's that crazy. The article was showing an example of a book that cost 27,000,000 before the sellers caught what had happened.
I sell on eBay all the time and I've never heard of any kind of "automatic price system" for sellers. It's bidding that's automatic. The simple fact is that there are people who have no idea what things go for and throw it up on eBay, where it sits. Depending on the circumstances, it can cost nothing for an ad to sit there indefinitely, so they're not out anything by not knowing what they're doing.
I also collect stamps. The largest stamp dealer in the world is Mystic Stamps. They produce a slick full color "catalog" that is actually a list of their (overpriced) inventory for sale.
I get these probably every couple of months (free) and send them to the trash can.
I saw one on e-bay listed as a "fantastic, full color catalog listing all the current values".
When I looked, the high bid was $26.00!! Don't know what the final bid was though.
Like HIO said, there's one born every minute.
Just for reference, the Scott's USA catalog (AKA "the bible") goes for around $80.00.
Yeah - I picked that one up in a Rock Auto order for like $14. But I tell you - the book is thin. I have a Haynes manual for my '94 Exploder, and it's WAY better than this one for the Bronco/F100... Do NOT pay that much for it!
Look at what air cleaner assemblies are going for on ebay. You would think they are made of gold or something. I thought people threw them away, now it appears they want your first born for one.
Clutch fans are another item everyone thinks they are worth their weight in gold.
I have no idea why either. Generally one can buy new parts for much cheaper shipped than deal with ebay.
I paid less than 20 for a haynes and chilton off ebay fwiw.
I'm pretty sure you wouldn't pay more than 30 for the haynes in a parts store if they carried it.
