ANYBODY USING CAL-TRACS?

I just got off the phone, ordering a set from California. They should be here (Ontario) by the middle of next week. I watched a couple of youtube videos. The guy has a 67 F100 with a 429. He has before and after videos of his Cal-Tracs install. It seems like they work well.
Any tips on making the install easier?

I've contemplated making my own set up for mine. Didn't realize that they actually made them for our pickups? Can I ask the cost?

I really need to address the traction issues on my 69.

Links to videos mentioned?

I have a friend that runs a set on his '70 Mustang drag car. Runs 9.6's in the 1/4 with Windsor/Jerico 4spd.

John, from Calvert Racing just called back with my total. $419 for the kit and $120 to ship it to me by USPS. Yeah, it's a little spendy, but I shouldn't have to worry about traction/ u-joints again. He also said that they've made kits for several of our generation of trucks. Just go to their website and fill out the "Truck Dimension Sheet", then call them with the numbers.

Cool, thanks for the link. I found his other link "after caltracs".

A couple summers ago I removed a ladderbar set up from my truck. I ran it for 20 yrs that way and worked well, but with no floaters it was in bind and finally beat out the front eye bushings and caused major torque steer issues. I rebuild the springs and put it back to stock. With my 428CJ/4spd and 4.56 gear/spool it really winds those stock springs up BAD!!!! I can't apply power at all and with that video it really proves the bad positive angle on the ujoints with any kind of power applied.

That video still shows some up angle and I think that is caused by using the stock springs. You need a really stiff set of leafs to support the downforce from the front. If not, it will just bend the leaf around it. My friends Mustang runs a set of 1/4" thick leafs custom built for this kind of application. Don't know if this truck has monoleafs? That might help.

It looks like our trucks are set at 0* pinion and I think I would reset it down a couple degrees before setting up the Caltracs. Either with wedge plates or rewelding the perches.

I have the capabilities of making my own, but it's the time. Did the $419 include the adj shocks? I have a set of 9 way Ranchos that I ran on my race car and surely could make fit the truck.

I don't think it included shocks. I didn't even think of that.
