When to start towing

I have a 2015 F250 6.2 L with 300 miles on it. My question is do I need to put some break-in miles on it or just start towing. I have a 26 foot TT that weighs less than 6250 lbs loaded. thanks

I think the book said 500. My dealer suggested at least 1,000 or more for the trans to go through the learning process.

I started at 370 miles pulling our 16K 5ver, I did take it easy for a while and it never heated up or acted like it was having any problems. After about 5K it really can alive. I've always been in the break it in the way your going to use it crowd.

My 2014 manual states 1000 miles. I did my first tow then-now that I have about 2600 miles I note that the truck is towing better than at 1000. Not sure why, but as others have pointed out, it takes awhile for the truck to break in and reach its max performance.

I managed to put about 700 miles on my 2013 before heading out on an 800 mile trip pulling 11K 5th wheel. Truck now has 6k on it and it really does a good job. Like Denny says "drive like you stole it".

The first 450 miles were around town city miles, no long highway runs. After that I loaded the slide-in and put it to work. No ill effects, truck has about 9K now.

Every vehicle I ever bought new I followed that belief. I found that every vehicle got the best mileage the way it was broke in & performed the best that way also.
The old saying use to be that if it is going to blow let it do it on Fords dime, not mine.
I agree with giving it a few hundred miles but after that all bets are off. Every engine or tranny I ever rebuilt got that same treatment. The only difference was I would vary my speeds & pull on the rebuilt engines for a good 500 miles to seat the rings. But that never meant babying it.

I picked up my truck with 14mi, put a couple hundred on it unloaded that day and then hooked my 8k construction trailer up the next morning.
Nearing 1k miles now and it's been caned every step of the way and is breaking in nicely.

The manual says 500 miles, but I waited until about 1000.

The purpose is not for engine or tranny break-in, but for the ring and pinion gears. It's important to let them set in without getting to hot...which towing does increase the temp of the gears.

Hope this helps...
