i have a 06 f250 cc psd, and im wondering when i should start towing. and if i dont start towing is this goin to hurt my truck engine. ie bad milage for ever?
thanks in advance
You shouldnt tow for the first 800-1000 miles from the owners manual. The second question I'm having a hard time uderstanding what you are asking, if you DONT (ever) tow with the truck is it going to hurt the engine?
No, not towing will not hurt the engine. You will get worse MPG when towing then empty to therefore your milage will not go up from towing if anyhing it will go down.
These engines are granted made to work and do need to be run hard at times but no damage will happen if you dont tow. I suggest using Diesel Kleen of Stadyne additive to keep your EGR clean since you wont be getting the EGTs high enough without towing to "clean everything out."
I've only towed once in the 3 months I've owned the truck and it was a 6k trailer with 1550 miles on the clock. I nw have just about 3000 miles and the truck runs fine averaging about 16.4 mpg daily driving empty.
I only had about 200 miles on my truck the first time I pulled my boat with it (approx 6000 pounds) It was just a short trip (15 minutes) level to Lake Michigan to drop it in.
After I had just over 1000 miles on the truck I pulled a trailer with 2 motorcycles on it to the east coast and back.
I've noticed no ill effects.
I did follow the 'break-in' recommendations I saw somewhere that said to take the truck to a parking lot somewhere, put it in first gear and just run it up to the rev limiter slowly and let it engine brake down to idle and do that til you are bored.
thank you all very much. i will do that, also, whats this about put it in first in a parking lot and runnin to the revlimiter? ill do it but does anybody else agree or disagree with that? its my first ever new truck. i dont want to hurt it
It's in the 6.0L Tech folder sticky. To break in the truck and set the rings you should wind out each gear one by one reving all the way to redline, then letting the engine brake back down. Here is the link read up till your eyes bleed and you come out with MUCH more knowledge about trucks, diesels, and Fords. Enjoy: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...ight=breaking+
