Engine Problems

I have a 2001 F150 5.4 triton. It recently started leaking coolant so i stopped driving it until i could get it to the shop. The day i took it to the shop, i stopped 3 times and checked the coolant level and i kept it full while driving it to the shop. The mechanic that was fixing it kept putting it off and had an excuse every day why the truck wasnt ready yet. It stayed in the shop almost a month for him to put a new intake on the truck. The truck ran fine on the way to the shop. I finally got tired of excuses and delays so i went to the shop and asked him if it was ready. He told me now the motor is rurnt and water is getting in the oil. I checked the oil before and after i got there and the oil had no water in it. He cranked it up and the motor had a loud rattle in it. He wants to rebuild it for 1800 dollars. I want everybodys honest opinion about this deal. Do yall think the motor just burnt up or do y'all think he could of screwed the engine up on purpose to make more money because i always pay on time? Like i said, the truck had 200,000 miles on the motor but i never once had a lick of engine probs. Please give me your opinions. I just think he could have accidentally or purposefully messed the engine up. He wouldnt answer some days and he always had an excuse to why it wasn't ready

Very honestly we cannot offer you an opinion that would have any accurate value on something like this with no solid proof and only your feeling about it here.
To many things going on, too long a time, a difference about the coolant leak and it's result, and cost of action and possible business practice being an issue.
It's your position against his we cannot referee.
'Get' the truck to another shop so you get a second opinion for hopefully a better outcome overall.
Have them evaluate the truck's present condition minus the present situation so there is no pre concluded opinion involved..
Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I plan on taking it to a different mechanic. Its just funny how the first thing that he said to me when he told me the engine was gone is that he could rebuild it for 1800

I had a motor with 190K miles that blew an oring on the manifold cross over tube. Motor over heated and manifold gaskets leaked.. I fixed that and long term still had head gasket or head problems with leaking water. Mine leaked into the combustion chamber and not the crank case........... My point is once you get a good leak.. your on the down hill slide. With 200K miles would not automatically jump on the mechanic.
