Steering wheel play

I have a noticeable amount of slack in my steering wheel. I have replaced the tie rods, center link, gear box, rag joint. Just from a rookies view the slack looks May be in the top end.. Is there anything between the rag joint and steering wheel that I should be looking for? I'm frustrated with this for sure.

Could the splines on your steering wheel shaft be worn down? I have not heard of that before, but it's a guess.

If everything is new, and torqued down correctly, there shouldnt be that much play.

Maybe the knuckle at your gearbox, where it connects to the steering shaft is worn out.

Did you replace your gear box with a Red-Head unit? If you did'nt that could be where your play is.

A rag joint even new is going to have a certain amount of slop in it .. Alternatives are

Thanks for the reply. I will check the splines bc that sounds reasonable. The gear is a cardone, car quest brand. I'm suspicious of it now of course. I was going to get a redhead but needed/wanted something fast yada yada. I believe the rag joint is in good order. I tightened the hell out of all the bolts that came with kit from napa. I will investigate the top spline when I get home.

Steering slop

Has anyone ever heard of something from the rag joint back, as in towards the steering wheel, causing slop? Bearings? Etc
