Steering play (Tie rods )
My wife's 99-expy-xlt-5.4L has some play in the steering.
The steering wheel can be turned about 2" from 12 o'clock either way before I feel any resistance.
Could the tie-rods be shot? I am experiencing wear on the outside of the front tires, especially one side.
Is there a test for tie-rods on Fords? My BMW is simple, you jack it up and hold the wheel at 3 and 9 o'clock and look for play....however, the Ford is huge and I'm not sure how much play i should feel.
