I have a '67 F100 with a 352 3speed and 3.25 gears in rear end. I got a '67 390 2V that came out of a fairlane that reportedly has about 50,000 on the clock. I confirmed the stroke, it is way over 3 1/2. It is VERY CLEAN. bores look immaculate. I want to unlock a little more power, nothing radical and NO stroker kit. I'm thinking about going with the Edelbrock cam, intake , and carb 600 cfm. I will not be racing, or taking it up to 5,000, either. I'm going to reuse the headers from the 352. What sort of seat of the pants improvement will this be over the 352? I figured the 38 cubic inches alone would be noticeable. But, what about the Edelbrock parts? Will they be worth it in your valued opinions? Remember, this is just a cruiser and a Menards hauling put-put truck, with the occasional throttle blip. The 352 is no dog and has over 200,000 trouble free miles. I've never driven a 390, so I'm not sure what to expect.
2X Mike. Also figure in the stroke. Stroke equals leverage. Leverage equals torque. Torque is what gets a body IN motion. Horepower is what keeps it in motion. If you look at the bore and stroke numbers from a 383 that the boys in the "Bow Tie Brigade" are so proud of you'll notice they are extremelly close to a FACTORY FORD 390!
