Problems Encountered

Does anybody ever have any problems with these trucks that you can work on? Obviously I have been tracking the NOx sensor every now and then, but I can't really recall any problems that have been rampant. Maybe a couple of seals and stuff like that, but no oil cooler problems, fuel cooler, etc. I am really starting to think that Ford knocked it out of the park with the new 6.7. Obviously they are going to make changes, like the new turbo and exhaust brake, but it just goes to show that nobody is perfect and you can always improve stuff. Been awhile since I posted, I have been lurking, but keep getting sent off for training for a month at a time so. How is everybody? 2ndStroke, EO2, Trent, how are you guys doing? Truck is still doing awesome, still trying to get some new wheels and tires for it.

There are a number of recurring issues on these trucks.

DEF sensor/heater
EGT sensors that cause immediate shutdown
Radiators with leaking seams
Transmission front pumps that lose prime

The 6.7 motor itself seems fairly well sorted out after they cured the valve issue in the 2011 MY, but many of the supporting systems are lacking.

I forgot about the radiator issues, but I haven't heard of too many transmission front pumps. The sensors are annoying as they shouldn't be on the truck anyways. Nice rig. You done anything to it yet?

Haven't done anything to it but fix it and add coolant every week.

Lots of people have the tranny pump issue and don't know it, just think it is normal to have to wait for it to catch and go into gear or they just ignore it.

Is your radiator broken at the seams? If so, I would call Ford and ask them if they can help you out at all with covering some of the costs associated with it. I am assuming that your not in your warranty period anymore.

Matt, it's good to see you posting again. Other than staying extremely busy at work these days, I'm doing fine. The truck is still issue free and the best new vehicle I have ever owned. He just got his first oil change and DEF refill two weeks ago.

Don't know about broken at the seam, bad seal maybe, but leaking there.

As to any help from ford, been down that road and there is no help from them on any of the issues I've had.

I currently have just under 155K miles on my truck, way, way out of warranty.

Radiator seams have been an issue for a long time.

The EGT sensors as well. Lots of people carry a spare sensor.

Powertrain has been good for me on this truck so far actually, I just seem to break suspension components but that's part of how I use and abuse the vehicle. I'm practically just digging to find stuff to fix on my truck.

The 2015 turbo swap does interest me though, you know like preventative maintenance.

Nitto Trail Grapplers! Not sure of the size. I am trying to pick up some of the XD series wheels. I think they look pretty sweet. Brett, what kind of wheels and tires did you get?

Nice, those look pretty sweet. How much did the whole setup run you? I'm looking to keep 18s. Might be trying to reenlist for Alaska here in November, we will see. I haven't made my decision but I am pretty pumped to see how the truck does in the winter!
