Diesel Particulate Filter service/maintenance

I found this in the owners manual on page 62.

Filter service/maintenance
Over time a slight amount of ash will build up in the DPF which is not removed during the regeneration process. The DPF may need to be removed for ash cleaning at approximately 120,000 miles (193,000 km) or greater (actual mileage can vary greatly depending upon engine/vehicle operating conditions) and replaced with a new or remanufactured (ash cleaned) part. The filter may need to be replaced at approximately 250,000 miles (400,000 km) depending upon engine/vehicle operating conditions. All the Ford dealers I have talked with said they do not clean the filters, they only replace them. ($2,869.31) I have also called truck shops that do DPF cleaning but they don't do Fords because they have an injection line built in. I talked with a local Ford service manager and told him what was going on (see below) and he said if the wrench/check engine light were not on then you don't need to worry about it. Things like poor quality fuel will cause it to regen at shorter intervals. What is your take on waiting on a wrench/check engine light to come on?

I bought my truck used with 127k last Dec. I tow 22k 5th wheel for over 2,000 miles and have only seen the "Cleaning Exhaust Filter" on display for less than 1 minute, twice. After stopping to refuel (engine shut off) at a truck stop and returning to the interstate, less than 1.5 miles from entrance (cruise set on 60) the check engine light came on and display showed "Stop Vehicle Safely". I pulled off to side of interstate and engine shut down at about 3 mph. Engine would not turn over. Towed to Ford dealer, showed exhaust pressure sensor and EGT sensor needed to be replaced. Reprogramed and test driven by tech. He didn't make it back. Once it was back, the diagnostic computer showed another EGT sensor so it was replaced and all is well. I have driven less than 400 miles and have seen the "Cleaning Exhaust Filter" on display 3 times for up to 15 minutes.

Thanks

Sounds normal to me, the EGT sensors are an issue that pops up a lot on these trucks.

Mine went south at 122K, a big tow bill and shop bill for a $54 sensor.

Fun, fun, fun...welcome to 6.7 ford ownership.
