This is what I used in my trans and transfer case.
Valvoline/1 qt. MaxLife Dex/Merc automatic transmission fluid (VV3246) | Transmission Fluid | AutoZone.com

Synthetic may or may not resolve the issue. But if the ATF in the tranny isn't synthetic, it's the WRONG FLUID. The OP is chasing her/his tail trying to resolve the issue with the wrong fluid in the tranny.
