yes it is cracking. I just change it in my excursion, I used a dorman from o rillies. the cap with it wouldn't let air back in the system when it cooled down so i put the original cap back on.
I bought one from Clay - the old cap and the new cap fit just fine.
Clay's (OEM) is more translucent than the Dorman, and I've heard from several members who have issues with the fit of the cap on the Dorman.
I wish I would have had time to get one from Clay! I would much rather support him than a corporation! (notice leak the day before I am leaving on a 1500 mile trip!)
with mine it was the cap that came with it that didn't fit, it didn't fit the new or old degas bottle! the original cap fit both fine.
I am on my third one as the first two have cracked. When I picked up the last one at my local Ford dealer, they told me that all parts have a 2 year warrantee and the parts guy told me to just bring it back every two years and swap it out for a new one.
I called my local pirate Ford dealer (years ago) and they quoted me $124, but I bought it from a web-based Ford dealer for $67, shipped. At that time, there were no Chinese clone parts for this. It's a mission critical part, so I wouldn't wait until it blows up on the highway....
I lost the little wing bolt and bracket for my jack - plus one of the plastic clips broke. The jack parts ride in the back between the bed liner grooves (Canopy keeps them from getting weathered).
Maybe I should take a picture of my *** and post it here. Let you guys stare at all the details on that... looking for flaws.
