I have a 1997 ford f250 diesel 7.3 with about 290k for miles I needed to replace my throttle control sensor (TPS) due to a very low idle postion so I did it was fairly easy and quick after install of the new TPS and TPS connecter the truck idle fine but the throttle is not responding whitch it did before install I'm not sure what I did wrong any ideas ?? The IVS seems to be working fine the TPS and IVS are receivin power as well

 

Make sure that the blade on the end of the shaft is in the slot on the back of the TPS. you have to put the TPS on that blade then rotate it to line the bolt holes up.

 

I have checked the blade and it is set in the slot also the RPMS did move from about 400rpms to 800rpms after the new install

 

I have also checked all the fuses under the dash and hood all seem to be working

 

What was the part # of the TPS you used ?

Kinda odd your rpm changed since the TPS doesn't control the idle.

I will look in to using the sensor you found if this doesn't work though I'm out of ideas ... is there anything else that could cause this issue ??..

My money is on the fact that you ordered a TPS. There is no such thing on a diesel. It is referred to as an APS, or Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor. Coupled with the fact that you had to change connectors (APS sensors are directly bolt in/plug and play, with factory wiring, you never have to change connectors). Between the sensor and your connector splice, I'd bet the wiring is wrong and also the sensor is wrong.

Before I messed with the wiring I would install the correct sensor, and then if it still doesn't work, investigate your wiring.
