I was out in the boonies, a few hundred miles from home, over the 4th of July. Heard/felt my brakes scraping. Pulled the front wheels, found the outer pad, passenger side, worn all the way down. Couldn't find a mechanic or machine shop way out there, but I did find an auto parts store. Happened to have some tools in the back, so I replaced the front pads right there in their parking lot. However, I couldn't get the rotors cut/turned. They actually all looked pretty good, except for the outer side of the passenger rotor. About half of the surface was scraped, although there weren't any deep gouges. So, what's gonna happen? Will the pads wear out quicker? How much? Will they squeal? Right now, there's no noise & it stops great. No wiggle in the steering wheel.

Your pads will be fine. They will wear to fit the grooves in the rotor and then wear normally. If you installed them properly and used some anti squeak where they mount to the calipers then they wont squeak.

Sounds like the caliper is not sliding properly. It is dragging the outer pad all of the time. I would clean the surface where the caliper rides and maybe put a thin layer on grease where it slides on the caliper bracket.
They should wear pretty even, inside and out.
I would also have the rotor thickness checked. If they get too thin they will crack and could eventially break.

the pads were worn pretty evenly. the outer pad on the passenger side was the first to go, but the others weren't far behind. rotors were replaced at last brake job, so thickness should be ok.
