AA vs AD injectors

Although I haven't had time to get back out to my 97 to hook up the AE scantool and check it out, I am pretty sure it has at least one bad injector from the fuel knock it has.
While at a customer's shop today I noticed a PSD engine sitting in the corner. Was told it ran great until the intake boot tore and they dusted it out. I can probably get it free. My question, will the injectors out of a 2001 work in my 97?

It depends if you have tuning to run split shots. If your truck is a Cali model, I think it would work. Alternatively, you can probably swap the SD PCM which also brings a whole host of other benefits.

As far as I know the truck is bone stock, and probably not a Cali truck either. Was hoping they would work, oh well, story of my life. Free is usually the most expensive thing I can get.

They will "work", you would need a chip that is burned for split shots. If you don't have a chip already, you can get a PHP Hydra chip for $425. That's cheaper than 2 new OEM injectors. If you have a chip already, you can have it sent off and reburned for prob less than $100 depending on the tuner.

This is mostly not true.

The AD Split Shot from the '01 motor can drop right in and function perfectly fine ---as long as the injectors are in good shape to begin with. You do not need special tuning to run them. If you have a CA model even better, but Split Shots work fine in a Single Shot truck, you just won't see their full potential without custom tuning. Lots of guys with older trucks have done this, had bad stock injectors and SD injectors almost free to get them by till they can fix the Single shots.
FYI Stage-1's are a far better upgrade than running AD's.

You cannot swap a Super Duty ECM into an old body style truck and expect anything to work right (not without major re-pinning).

Agreed. I've looked into it and if I could locate all of the information I need, I believe I could do it without much problem... BUT repinning an EEC/PCM connector is not something you want to jump into without knowing exactly what you're getting yourself into. I'll post one pic from when I swapped EECs in my F150. if this looks like a nitemare to you, don't consider converting an EEC in anything. Lol Now, back on topic. Sorry about that OP! Jim got you pretty squared away on putting SD injectors in your OBS, so I have nothing to add on that.

IIRC it is 8 or 9 pins, and a digital tach controller to double the RPM single. I think that this was for an auto.

A manual appears to be less, although you would still need the tach controller. I think when I last looked I identified four or five pins for a manual to manual conversion. Also is a good option for guys with a Cali pcm who can't locate it.

However, I have also heard that unless you have a 97 truck you need to add in a tps wire or two. 97 trucks apparently have a different setup, that is like the sds.
