the truck is 4x4. I have only had is for a month or so. I do not know the history of it. I am unable to upload pics, but I may be able to email you if you can inbox me your email. the carb says holley made for motorcraft
I have a 77 Highboy 4x4 with the 460. I KNOW it is a transplant. It was done at Ford when the truck was purchased by the original owner. took the 390 out, put the 460 in before the owner even picked it up. I also have the Holley 4 bbl but when It's time to rebuild, I think the better option is just replace with better. The time and money on a rebuild to go back in tech doesn't make sense.
It is an emissions motor and looks like the holley/Ford 4180 carb .. Do yourself a favor and remove anything flammable from on top of the intake .. The E5HE means it is 85 or newer I believe and 87 was the last year of the carbureted 460 so we're narrowing it down .. What state will it be registered in and do you have emissions testing ? Also cap off the 2 bowl vent tubes one coming out each end of the carb if your not going to be running an evap system .. Is there a canister on the passenger side frame under the battery (or maybe 2 if you have 2 fuel tanks) with a line running back to the fuel tank ?
The kit for it http://www.ebay.com/itm/Holley-3-1346-Renew-Kit-Carburetor-Rebuild-Kit-Extra-Parts-For-Perf-Tuning-/161229670234?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item258a09875a&vxp=mtr
Impossible. 1976 was the last year that FE engines (360/390) were installed. The only V8 available in 1968/76 F100/250 4WD's was the 360 2V.
What 460 engine mounting parts were used by the dealer, since there were no aftermarket parts available and FoMoCo didn't offer any such thing?
1977/79 F150/250 4WD & 1979 F350 4WD available with 351M/400 V8's only.
Wasn't going to call the guy a BS'er. He is the original owner, said that he had Ford do the conversion before he even picked it up. I wasn't there at the time, I was 8 years old. Some dealers may do stuff like that. I have a friend with a Ford dealership in CA that tricks out Raptors prior to selling.

The MSRP of the truck was probably around $6000.00
New 460 long block with 4V carb, without accessories: Dealer net cost: $1600.00.
Complete 460 engine: Dealer net cost: $2700.00.
What did the dealer charge to install either? By the time the engine was installed, parts and labor would have been...at least 50% of the trucks MSRP.
Why don't you ask the owner if he still has the receipts for this engine swap.
I agree, It would be cool to have that old invoice
He gave me what he had, and it wasn't much. The truck was his running to town rig and all his maintenance was at the same dealer for years. they just maitained it and kept it tuned but weren't big on PPW. On another note... Not to hijack the thread but with your wealth of knowledge in the category... where does one find that soft hose that runs from the snorkel on the air cleaner to the plastic "Cold Air box" down below? Thanks in advance for your help.
