You currently don't have a functioning choke .. So I would address that first .. Connect a single wire with a female connector from choke to the Stator post on the back of the alternator .. If you need more info in how to make up the wire just say so ..
The D3ve a2a heads are a good head for a truck motor .. We still need to look at the carburetor bore pattern on the intake .. So take the carb off and take a picture of where it came from on the intake ..
The next important ID is whether the motor is internally or externally balanced .. The externally balanced motor when looking behind the crank pulley and harmonic balancer will look like the picture .. There was a cutoff mid 1979 year where ford went from internally balanced to externally balanced ..
Looked at my egr valve, it is not hooked up. All this time, I thought the valve coming out of the valve cover was the egr......feelin pretty dumb
Since the egr valve is not hooked up you need to investigate further whether the previous owner blocked it off before you hook it back up .. You will be able to tell more when you remove the carb and the egr plate to clean it out ..
I have'nt gotten around to working on the truck, but I did buy the carb rebuild kit. A new problem I am having. I am loosing massive amounts of oil. While running I am getting a black mist out of my exhaust. The truck only smokes alittle on fire up. It does not smoke while going down the road. When parked, I do get some drips but nothing alarming. Since I have had it (2 months) I have had to add about 9 qts of oil to it, and its not a daily driver.

Is this at start up?
It sounds like you have more than one source that you are losing oil .. One of them sounds like valve seals which happens on higher mileage motors that sit for longer periods of time .. The rubber valve seals become hardened and then allow oil to leak into the cylinder past the valve ..
It mists while running. I am thinking that there is a cylinder not firing, which may be why it's not smoking. Any idea where I could get a new wiring harness that goes from the control module to the distrubtor and coil. I had a small flame up and it burnt a small portion of it?

That harness should be easy to come by at any junkyard with dentside trucks .. or repair the one you have by splicing in pieces for the damaged wires ..
