6637 Mod

Hey guys, this is my first post over on the PS side. I came over from the IDI side of the forum.

I recently picked up a 95 Ext cab that was almost all stock except for a 3" straight pipe turned out before the rear wheel. I went ahead and put my intake cone from my IDI on it (like the 6637 mod). It is the Vectre cone that opens up to 4" id. After the install, I didn't notice a big difference spool volume wise. I could hear some whistle under heavy throttle. None at light cruising. Is this normal? I guess I expected a lot of turbo noise after ditching the airbox.

Welcome to the Powerstroke side of the house.

The 6637 air filter is a good upgrade that will allow your engine to breathe better, especially with an aftermarket turbo-back exhaust system. MBRP and DiamondEye are popular. I have a DiamondEye system on my truck.

This is what my 6637 air filter setup looks like:
6637 Mod 1 by IDMooseMan - Ford-Trucks
NAPA 6637 air filter and 41632 (blue pipe) exhaust elbow.

The turbo whistle will increase with an aftermarket turbo-back exhaust system and is normal with these types of upgrades. When the turbo whistles, you know it is working easier and better.

I'm also new to the PS and started with the 6637 myself. It must be normal because mine was the same way and I expected more as well. On the intake side of things I mean. Keeping in mind this was with the stock exhaust so interior noise was kept to a minimum. I just did exhaust (today actually) and yes the turbine side is now much more noticeable out the exhaust. I can no longer hear the intake side spool from inside the truck though.

what happens when you get water on the 6637 filter??? does it stop water?? I want to do the Mod but I'm scared about moisture getting in with the filter being exposed so much. especially with it right next to the crack of the edge of the hood. thoughts, comments??

I would hazard a guess that 90% of us in this section of the forum run the 6637 and there have been no reports that I've seen of issues with water.

Due to the location of the air filter (OEM or 6637) installation, if you're getting water that high in your engine compartment, you have other issues, (like the river crossing is deeper than expected ), to deal with first.

I've been running a 6637 air filter for years. I have had no issues with moisture (rain, fog, snow, hail, etc) entering the intake system with my setup. There are moisture-resistant air filters on the market, but IMHO, they are not necessary.

I don't intend to sound facetious, so please don't take my comments that way. I firmly believe, based on my experiences prior to and after the 6637 air filter installation, that moisture concerns are a non-issue. The 6637 air filter is installed in the exact same location as the OEM air filter setup. If you're not having moisture issues with the OEM air filter setup, you won't have moisture issues with the 6637 air filter setup.

The 6637 is more vulnerable to hood leaks than the filter in the OEM air box. That said, you don't see a flood (no pun intended) of threads/posts about the 6637 being spoiled by water leaking from the hood seam. If that seam is leaking on a given user's truck, your more pressing issue would be water getting into the IDM.

Thanks guys. My major concern with the hood seam is because the kid who had this truck before me got mad and was an idiot and the hood didnt open up far enough for him so he took a hammer to it and bent ot a bit. So the seam is open a little more than normal. But not too bad. Ill get a pic on here as soon as I can.

Ok so those are the pics. Any thoughts guys? Do you see the gap in the seam as a concern?
