Question Regen taking too long?

I hadn't really paid much attention to this before, but I noticed it this last week.

Heading down I-69. 63mph, towing about 15.5k. No change in speed during regen.

Regen started. Lasted 20 minutes.

Too long? Issue for the dealer?

Difficult to say unless you can tell what your soot factor was, when the regeneration process started. That's why many drivers on here run additional gauges to have visibility into that type of information.

So your saying it would not be usual for it to run that long, if the soot buildup was significant.

Thanks.

Interesting, how do you know it was 20 minutes? I watch my Soot level, EGTs and Distance Since Last Complete Regeneration. I would assume pulling a 15.K trailer would be enough to keep the EGTS hot enough for a Passive Regen. The PCM will force an Active Regen in so many miles (I believe 500?) that could last longer. If you got a few second message on the display, I'd assume that the Regen was caused by Soot Load; if your message stayed on the display then I would assume that you either didn’t complete the last regenor your miles were near 500? If your next Completed Regen is that long and less then 500 mile since the next, I’d suspect something, but I’m sure you would get a DPF trouble code if you had an issue. I knowingly stopped 3 Active Regens and got a Wrench with my Soot level over 100% which I had to “Drive To Clean Exhaust Filter” to clear the Wrench light.

Would not worry at all.Ive had plenty regens lasting 20 minutes. (I have a cts so I know when IM in a regen)Ive also had them pulling 15k.Like said above, you were prolly just about due before you hooked up and once your egts got up to temp you went into a regen.I wouldnt think twice about it at this point.
How did you know it lasted twenty minutes without some kind of monitor or do you?Just going by the drop in mpg?

Thanks and exactly. I had the monitor set to MPG, little sign popped up saying regen, my instant mileage bar dropped from about 11 to 7.5 or so and stayed there. I looked at the time. I kept an eye on it. About 20 to 22 minutes later, the instant bar moved back up to about 10.5 or so. Figured it must be done.

Noticed no other changes in driving. Just my mileage.

Yeah dont worry at all.Ive monitored mine for two yrs now. Some take twenty some take less.Ive noticed while pulling fiver sometimes the regen will take me all the way down to .85 soot level. When Im not pulling the regen usually stops at 1.20 or so.So just a guess here but maybe with the higher egts the truck gives itself a real good cleaning while towing.

Yep and it helps that when towing you're already running hot so it doesn't take as much fuel to get the temps up above 1100°F so the AR is more efficient.
