I recently purchased a shifter repair kit for my M50D transmission on my '95 f-150 2wd. I guess when I removed the piece that goes between the shifter and the transmission (4" piece of metel with large ball in the middle), I adjusted the linkage or shifted gears when removing it.
When i re installed everything It wouldn't shift gears. So, I took everything back apart and tried to adjust the linkage by hand. I may have popped off a spring inside. Am I going to need to drop the transmission and take off the cover for the linkage right there on top of the transmission, or is there a way i can fix it from the small opening in the cab.
This may not make any sense whatsoever, but if anyone knows that would be great, if not and you need pics I'm sure i can figure out how to post them on here. This is my daily driver and i have 3 days to get this fixed. TIA
It sounds like you've knocked one of the gears out of wack. No biggie. A flat blade screw driver is all you need.
Here's where you're at, I'm assuming?
Here is after getting the shifter forks aligned (Neutral) in the next picture, they're in 1st gear.
Here you can see the left shifter fork in the 1st gear position.
All you have to do is use a screwdriver to press left or right (Depending on which Dentent Button you're trying to depress) and move the fork forwards or backwards.
As long as the 2 buttons mirror each other, you'll have no issues.
Hit the nail on the head, thank you! Ya, when I was in there messing around with it I pushed that piece on the left hand side that spins and has a spring on it a little too far and unaligned the spring. Had to pull the whole top off and get it with some curved awls from the bottom. 10-15 min job turned into a pain in my @$$. Thank you again.
