when i install lift blocks on my 77 f150 does the rear springs have a centering pin? if so, will it still work or is there something i need to buy. i am thinking about a 4 inch lift kit, but not sure how tall the lift blocks will be. also do i need radius arm drop brackets and a drop steering arm?
The block will have a pin in the bottom to go into your spring pad and the top will have a hole for the pin on your spring. RA brackets yes, pitman arm not necessary but recommended.
With a 4" lift the blocks will probably be 3". You stack them on your stock 3" blocks.
I agree with rrmike to a certain dergree about the piman and RA drops. You could get it in the air without either but it will drive goofy. Another thing I would recomend is swapping the inverted Y steering link setup for the 78'-79' style. No drop pitman combined with the inverted Y setup would make the truck a big handfull to drive.
To lift your truck 4" 100% correctly, you need the 4" drop pitman arm, 3" drop R/A brackets OR extended arms, 4 degree C bushings, 78'-79' steering linkage (pref. w/adj. drag link), and an adjustable trac-bar. You can get away without doing some of these things, but like I mentioned, it will be a handfull.
Lift blocks are evil things. When my 250 gets its lift there going away. Wheel hop = broken parts = thin wallet = mad wife = sleeping on couch. It all comes around later on.
how bad would it handle if i just add 2" lift coils to the front? can i fit 35" tires under that? if i do the 4" lift how much worse would it drive if i do the drop pitman arm and everything else but that steering convertion?
Yes you can fit the 35's fine with 2". It will drive fine with the 2" if you have the 6 degree c-bushings.
Also with the 4" you don't need an adjustable track bar. You can use a drop bracket for the top mount. This will actually give you better geometry than just lengthening the bar if you have a drop pitman arm.
