I have a 1988 F350 w/7.3 IDI. For years it dies at stoplights or when exiting the freeway. It always has restarted by popping the clutch or using the starter. Now it sits in my driveway and won't start at all. What is the problem do you think? Could it be the fuel injection pump or something as simple as the fuel filter?
Ok, the rest of the story. Just got the truck out of the shop. Runs great for only $2,100 for a new fuel injection pump. That includes $1,300 for the pump plus labor and diagnosis...and a fuel filter.
What I'm really wondering is, does this fuel filter (really a water filter) have a buypass if it gets clogged or can it really stop fuel flow completely? Or did I really need an injection pump? Any ideas?
