Clock Circuit issue

Didnt want to hijack the other guys topic about the clock so I will post my question here.

I removed the pins from the connector and desided to hook up to my 14v drill battery to test the clock out.

First off the color of the wires are not the same. They are as follows.

Black, Red, Green, White w/o tracer

I hooked black to ground and I hooked Red, Green, and White to positive and the clock lights up and works. Keeps good time.

All wiring diagrams even from Alldata says the brown wire is the dim wire, so since the only color that I have that doesnt match is the red I unplugged the red wire and the clock turned off. I plugged it back in and I unplugged the white wire and the clock stayed on, but if I touch the white terminal with my hand the clock goes to full brightness and if I connect it to the ground wire it goes full brightness. You leave the wire not hooked up and just hanging there it goes full dim, if you hook it to power it goes full dim as well.

Has anyone had issues with the wire coloring not matching up or the wires not doing as they are supposed to do?

Alldata listed prices for the clock from ford so I will be calling a couple local dealerships up for a 82 and a 83 year model clock see if they got one and how much, I will also be checking on the radio pigtail from them, much rather get new if possible.

Only thing is the circuitry doesnt match up with the data I have and I am questioning the clock itself now.

If you read the clock thread in the sticky - it inidcates that the colors of the wires from the clock connector to the harness connector are different (change color).
So it would be something like the "green with yellow stripe" goes to the "red" clock wire and so on.
I'm guessing at the colors but you get the point. you need to read the sticky.
Good luck.

Ill give it a read, alldata for the wiring diagram for 83, 84, and 85 doesnt show a color change at the connector but I will read the sticky. Wont be the first time that alldata was incorrect

What I was thinking of (regarding color changes) is in post 56 of https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l-clock-4.html. It says this:

BL = Blue = Light Green/Yellow
BR = Brown = Brown
BK = Black = Black
W = White = White/Purple

So the color difference is not drastic, as I'd thought - just first line is odd.
I didn't really look at mine - it was just pull out the 82 and install 83 clock. No changes to wiring/connector.

Good luck

Thanks, I'll need it, So far I have all colors but brown, mine has red instead. Im seriously thinking about calling up two local ford dealerships and see if they got any 83-85 clocks on hand new for a F150 with the wiring harness for it and pick it up. I can sell this used one to donnie then.
