My understanding of how the pre-charged filters work is the particulates are already soaked into the filter material and as coolant flows through the filter it can pick up what is needed. It won't take any more into circulation if the coolant is at its 'capacity' (I can't think of the technical term right now). Again that is my understanding. I recall there being a thread somewhere (PSN IIRC) regarding the pre-charged filters.
Basically if you are using full concentrate of coolant that is pre-charged when you do your flush. You won't have to worry about SCA for a little while.
I didn't even remove the block plugs, but knowing the capacity is 8 gallons. You know that if you add 4 gallons of pre-charged concentrate and then top it off with distilled water that you will have about a 50/50 mix.
Yes Jose you can use pre-charged filters on a bypass system. The bypass system I had circulated quite a bit of coolant.
Actually the IH water pump is a bypass filter setup as well. If you look at the ports on the pump you will see the filter part isn't in the direct path of flow, that way it won't hinder cooling if you neglect filter replacement.

Oh you wanted to know if you can use the Penray FN2091 filter in place of your Baldwin B5089? Or in other words are they interchangeable?
Of all of the water filters I have seen the changes occur in physical length, micron rating, and whether or not it is SCA charged.
The threads have all been the same.

I guess I'll just keep this rolling for the sake of learning since this is actively being followed. I'm not thrilled at the idea of doing a WP at this point; I'm perfectly capable just not psyched about it. That being said, I will strongly entertain doing a bypass system like the Dieselsite unit or similar unless there is glaring opposition against it. I think I'd Taylor the fittings and such to meet my aesthetic under hood needs tho. How do you fellas feel about the kits being offered? Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks guys..

Dont' waste your money on diesel sites Overpriced kits.
Go down and buy the oil guard head from napa or orileys and install it with some heater hose.
You'll spend like 30 bucks.
Most of the kits are overpriced and nothing special.
Your just paying somebody put some easy to get together parts in a box for you and ship it out.
I love my bypass, it works great.
Like I said, I'm going to leave it in with the water pump in as well.

Jose, I have ran that filter on my truck, its the same threads as the napa filters. I run a filter head from napa. I'm sure its the same as you have. I've just got an uncharged filter on it now, but next one will be another penray.

2 filters? why the hell not.
I hear ya, I'm not a "kit" guy.. I'd rather make it the way I want but when you have a schedule like mine it's nice to have everything all together quickly.. I'm in the merchant marines and I work 2 weeks on 2 weeks off, I go get on the boat and I'm there 24/7 for 14 days then I come home for 2 weeks.. I just don't have time to search, wait, install, test, etc...

Just clarifing: the filter head (aftermaket) has the same thread size than the one in the IH water pump? If so, I can buy a penray filter and install in my set up, right?

Thanks amigo.
I'm not sure on that Jose. I have a remote mount filter, it works with mine. I guess I don't know if it is the same on the IH pump. I thought the IH pump filter was smaller but I could be wrong.

Darin, I also think that the IH filter is smaller, but IDK. Thats why Im asking this, because the penray filter looks like the 8th marvel of the world, LOL. Dont worry Im waiting for an answer from the manufacturer. or maybe someone else will chime in here later.

Pretty simple man.
Just need the Oil Guard filter head, filter and some 5/8's heater hose.
That's it.
And however you want to mount it is up to you.
Mines bolted to the radiator.
there is a thread here someplace about it.
has the filter head number.
The only thing I had to do on mine was clean up the fittings for the filter head, they were not cast well and had some leaking issues with the hose.
I believe the filters are the same size. I had an extra one from the mule that I was going to put on the mare but decided to get the penray. I'm not 100% sure though.
