We went last year, we stayed outside the park in West Yellowstone. There was a Grizzly and Wolf Discovery center in town that was pretty cool. They sell you a two day ticket for $10-12 per person and you can get a schedule of feeding times and activities, on our way into the park we would stop by and on our way back to camp, we all loved it. As for in the park, we were there for a week and didnt have time to see much, of course old faithful was a hit, but everywhere you go in there is amazing. If you like fly fishing there is great places for that as well.

We've been wanting to go as well. Maybe next year. I always heard you have to have camping reservations at least 6 months in advance because it fills up so fast.

Been there a number of times. The park is very big and traffic can move very slowly some times when there are a lot of animals present. People will stop right in the middle of the road to take pictures etc. So allow time to get from one part to another and try to figure out a logical way you want to see it. Depending on where you enter the part will determine a lot. Things to see just outside the part is Jackson, WY and grand Tetons. Get a good map and try to see as much as you can. It is all good. Two weeks would be good. I personally like the lodge at Old Faithful a lot.

Take the Tiffin and lot of money, ain't much cheap up there. When we toured the park we took our American Eagle 40' diesel pusher. No problem finding a place to park as almost all of the pull out areas have RV/Bus parking areas. Driving the coach thru the park was no problem either, nice thing was having our own bathroom and kitchen facilities for when traffic or crowds did bring things to an absolute standstill.

We also stayed in West Yellowstone, I believe it was a very unlevel KOA. Do make the drive up to Bozeman, MT beautiful scenery. We got snowed on in July the year we went so take a jacket just in case.

Well at this time of year, you should see the predators out and about. I would advise checking out lamar valley which is just east of Tower Fall. Then from Tower Fall, you can head south to Canyon to check out the "Grand Canyon" of yellowstone. From there you can head west back to Norris where you'll be good and close to Old Faithful and tons of geysers and hot springs. Really gorgeous. I definitely want to go back, as some of the trails were closed when I went last.

My favorite spots

We stayed in the west Yellowstone KOA for 9 days about three summers ago. Pretty good KOA. Our favorite spot, not yet mentioned, was the side unofficial trail up the hill, to the left and behind Grand Prismatic Hot Spring. By far the best view of any hot spring in the park. Park to left of the springs about a quarter mile, hike the super easy and flat trail to rear of GPHS then look for a well used but unmarked rouge trail up a rather loose hill behind the spring. A photographers dream. Well worth the ten minute hike.

My tips are to either drive the rv in, or pack a lunch and leave early. You can easily spend 8 - 10 hrs a day touring. Set a pattern and avoid back tracking. Take all of the trails, most were really easy. Read up on eruption schedules, set a plan.

Like others mentioned, Buffalo are every where, plan on Buffalo jams.

Bear spray!

We saw several bears, on the side of the road and on the trails.

Subscribed for the great info. I've been wanting to get the wife out there since we started RVing and all this info is rejuvenating my interest. Got to wait til the little one is a little older though. She's only 2 now and I want her to appreciate it, not get bored by it.

We like to stay prior outside of Cody at Buffalo Bill State Park, very pretty and friendly for big rigs, but bring your genny! Spend a day in Cody visitng the museum and Rodeo at night.

After exiting Yellowstone we head south to the Tetons and stay at Teton Nal't Park. Believe its first come first serve, so plan to arrive early.

Sounds like a fun trip. Are you towing a daily driver? There are so many things to see in Yellowstone. Each gate and the surrounding attractions all offer something different.

Wave as you go by.

A few years ago we took two of our grandkids to Yellowstone. I only live like 4-5 hours from there. We camped outside the park just West of Cody, WY. After going to see Old Faithful one day, and waiting about an hour for it to go off, my 5 year old grandson said, 'grampa, you mean we came all this way for that?' I laughed and said, 'yep, and we're going to stay and watch it again.' The kids chased squirrels and chipmunks, and we went to the Lodge and looked around and ate ice cream until Old Faithful erupted again.

There are rock slide cleanups in various places from Yellowstone to Jackson. Also from Cody to Red Lodge, MT along the Beartooth Highway. If you have the time, I would recommend a drive to Red Lodge, MT since you are so close. The scenery is gorgeous. It is a popular route with motorcyclists, so watch out for them(us).

Here is a link to the Wyoming road and travel report: WYDOT Travel Information Service (Laramie)

There is a map near the top of the page and you can click on the different districts you might travel and see if there is anything in your way. We just had 9 inches of snow last week from central WY to MT, so drive careful and enjoy your stay in Wonderful Wyoming.
