I noticed that my ECT/EOT were higher than ever a few days ago. I took it into the shop and they checked fan duty cycle, egr etc...could not locate anything. The only change that I have made was that I added a Ranch Hand full replacement during the winter. The shop thinks the reduction in air flow through the grill mesh on the bumper may be contributing to the higher temps...we'll see.

I am in S. Fl. and see those temps all the time. Everyone I talk to down here say that is the norm. I still watch for any abnormal spikes I have read in the ford man. the T-stat doesn't fully open till 214. The fan work with a combine temp of o,w,t temps& barometric pressure among other variable's.

My trucks runs consistantly 198 to 204 at highway speeds since new. If your in the low 200's on a warm day consider yourself lucky. So many people here have t-stats running on the cool side that they now consider that the norm. I'm quite comfy seeing 202 to 204 as long as the eot's are in line with it. You'll get better operation of the engine in that range also.

My 06 with 103500 miles runs in that range (ect-198-204) now that I'm seeing 95* ambient and warmer. But my eot's stay within 8* or less (at 65 mph). I wonder if humidity is a factor on the cooling system.

100%. Thermostats vary much more than they should, what matters is if the operation is good. Mine is a cold thermostat for sure, stop-go in-town WOT whatever i throw at it unloaded, it will rarely pass 190 ECT, heck highest temp i ever seen was 214 EOT/209 ECT and that was pulling a 18' enclosed trailer with 12K# of scaffolding and tools. That only peaked because i turned onto a major highway and instantly had a 7 degree grade into traffic. Cruising temps was 204 EOT/199 ECT roughly.

That being said, i've heard of a few around my area that get thermostats changed after new coolant and they're temp spreads go out of wack at higher temperatures. So i don't want to change one that keeps me working

Before you spend needlessly do a cold soak to check the OAT with the oil and coolant temps. If close to the same the 'stat is prob fine.

I do suspect my eot is reading 2* high. Towing the boat and all leveled off at 211 eot and 206 ect on the highway. Ect did hit 208 a few times climbing a hill.

You may have misinterpreted my post, my thermostat works the way it should, it opens at 182 degrees on my scan gauge, ambient cold soaks are within 1 degree always. What i mean't is, people with cold thermostats sometimes replace from being spooked and end up getting high temps, high coolant pressures, high temp spreads you name it

You mean it opens at 192°?

Wow,

I must have REALLY high temps going! Just got back from a 1000 mile trip from Tacoma, WA to Lake Shasta.

Pulled my 6000 lb boat the entire way and saw Coolant temps of as high as 220 (which dropped quickly right after I heard the fan roaring.

The Oil temps got as high as 20 degrees higher than the ECT briefly. All temps came back down rather quickly.

The differences averaged around 15-20 degrees when pulling hard and dropped fairly quickly once I "let off".....on "flat", running 60-70 I saw around 10-12 degrees difference.

The truck only has 29,500 on it since new.

In another thread I indicated that I had a P0238 (Boost @ approx 30-35 PSI) code 3 times which I cleared after each occurrence. I probably will do an EGR delete and either replace the oil cooler with a new & improved one or go to the "Bullet-Proof " one.....

Other than that the truck ran flawlessly......

Cheers,

Rick

Those are high temps for just pulling a boat. What were the cruising temps? 240/220 scares me a bit, as an opinion

I found this on your P0238, Turbo Boost Sensor A High Circuit Input

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...igh-input.html

Give that a read, the code itself is beyond my knowledge

I would monitor Fan Speed RPM and Duty Cycle to verify the fan is operating correctly.

What is the normal fan speed RPM and duty cycle?

With A/C you'll see 800+ RPM at idle and observe the fan ramping up speed on acceleration and cut out at 50 mph.

Way too many variables when it comes to fan operation and A/C. Mainly you just want to see the fan ramping up and down RPM for a given engine load.

I'll program those in.

Yesterday on a road trip to Paris (not pulling anything), I had these fairly stable numbers at OAT = 90F:
EOT = 202F
ECT = 196F
TFT = 160F

When we hit stop and go traffic, max speeds approx 45-50 mph, they jumped to:
EOT = 210F
ECT = 204F
TFT = 180F

Normal?

btw, idiot gauges didn't move (I just recently got the ScanGauge II and I'm a little shocked at how much temps move without idiot gauge moving).
