I bought a Transgo shift kit before I went on vacation last week. The tranny has 60k on it and I'm betting it has never been serviced. It lags shifting into gear when I go from park or reverse. So I figure while it's apart getting flushed and serviced I will have the kit installed.
I was wondering what improvements I will notice with this kit. It was the kit for $40 from KDS Performance.
Be careful getting the tranni flushed. I have a friend that owns a shop and he won't flush a tranni with more than 40k on it. In most cases it causes more problems than it does good.
Allan - I've got the Transgo kit and I think it's probably the single best mod I've done to my truck yet.
A word of advice - the kits supplies you with 3 drill bits for drilling holes in a supplied metal plate. The size of the drill controls the firmness of the shift. The first time around, I used the recommended bits for each hole, and I wasn't impressed. I ended up pulling the whole thing apart, and drilling all the holes (I think there's 4 total) with the largest bit. Now it shifts the way it should. What's cool about the Transgo is that it doesn't permanently raise the line pressure, so when you're moving through a parking lot, it's not slamming gears, but when you stomp it, it allows more fluid into the valve body for a firmer shift. In short, it shifts the way you would if you were driving a stick - smooth when you're slow, but it quickly, firmly, and authoritatively shifts when you're around 2700-3000 RPMS.
While you're at it, if your transmission takes Mercon (NOT MERCON V), then refill it with Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. It will shift like a dream!
Let me know if you need anything else - I've installed this kit 3 times so far!!!

BTW: Did you get my email about the Police ride along?

It won't be a problem if the fluid was changed at the specified intervals. I'd say your friend is cheating himself out of a lot of business. If the same fluid has been in there for say, 80K miles, then it's not a good idea to flush it. Otherwise, NOT flushing is what causes failures.
Matt, my kit didn't come with drill bits, but they are mentioned. I would like to think that my mechanic (who races professionally) will have the bits he needs. So you're suggesting that I have him drill all the required holes with the biggest size bit? Also, I will have him use synthetic fluid when he refills.
As far as your email, I haven't received it yet. Try again,

Allan - The kit should come with the bits, otherwise, they should specify in the directions. I believe the largest supplied bit (the one that I used) was .110". I'll double check that, though.
