If anybody is thinking about doing a shift kit in their truck, do it! I finished up the install of a Transgo kit in my 92 Explorer and it made a huge difference in the way the transmission shifts and feels. Well worth it in my book.
One of the best mods you can do without getting carried away in my opinion...
I've got both the Baumann mechanical kit and the Transgo electronic controller on my Explorer. I set the Baumann to Stage 2 and run the Transgo in 2. It makes a huge difference.
I agree. I installed a shift kit in mine about 3 years ago to cure the infamous 'shifting flare'. An added benefit was improved shift points and better feeling shifts.
Is this install something a shade tree mechanic could do or is it best left to the professionals? ( as they call themselves) I guess what I am asking is how difficult is this upgrade?
It's not difficult at all, although a little time consuming.
I did mine in a Saturday afternoon.
No special tools needed, except maybe an inch-pound
torque wrench (for the valve body).
i've been checking the shift kits out online for quite awhile now and just wasnt quite sure as to what it may cost me to have it installed, since they suggested professionals for the install.. btu then again they suggest a technician to replace bad bulbs! haha
I think i may have to invest in the shift kit now.
