Transmission Cooler

Which cooler would you recommend? I am hoping someone with real world experience can chime in here. Looking to replace the stock one. We tow a 5th wheel trailer, and would like to insure I am getting adequate cooling if pulling a long grade.
Also, to run a gauge, where would I install the sender? Is there a plug or port on the transmission?
Thanks

I am about to do the same. The general answer seems to be to go with the 6.0l cooler. I am looking at the Dorman replacement simply due to cost concerns. I do run the Torque app on my phone and I can read trans temps as is without adding another temp sensor.

The 6.0L cooler is the way to go. There is a port on the trans for the sender. It is on the driver's side, towards the front of the trans, just above the pan. It has a black hex head plug in it from the factory

I have read a bit on the 6.0 cooler. However right now I only have the cooler in my radiator. How hard is the 6.0 cooler to retrofit? Also looked at B&M coolers. Any thoughts?

How am I reading Trans Temp on my Torque app now? Where is it getting its info from?

Thanks

Your truck left the factory with a cooler in the radiator AND an aux cooler. Replace the aux cooler with a 6.0L cooler and you won't have any cooling problems. It will bolt to the factory mounts. The only hard part is you need to get two 3/8" to 1/2" adapters from a hardware store.

The B&M cooler should work about the same as the cooler you now have.

It is reading the transmission fluid temperature sensor on the solenoid body inside the pan.

I will look again for my cooler. I followed my lines and only saw the ones going into and out of the radiator.

Check the link for a nice write up on the installation of a 6.0 cooler. There is also other stuff that may work with our trucks. Guzzle, woodnthings and 1975stroppe baja have some good pages available with solid tech articles.

Well, Mr. Bently_Coop, you are correct. Laid under the truck again, and was more diligent on following the lines. I do have a transmission cooler mounted behind the A/C condenser. Pretty good sized one also. It appears to be the full width of the condenser. Is this adequate for towing a 31' 5th wheel do you think?
Mark_Kovalsky, is this reading on the solenoid a good reading? I.E. real world temps on the fluid? Or should I put an inline temp sensor?
I appreciate everyone's help. I have never had the V-10 before. Pretty impressed with it so far, but, want to maintain it so it lasts many many years.

I did one a few years back, I pull a 26' toy hauler up the hills in AZ in the summer. The cooler is a huge upgrade from the stock one.

stuart1, thanks for that link, I have saved it for future reference. I have the 6.0 cooler on its way. Question though, at the end of the link it references using the factory hard lines. Since there was a change in transmission with the 6.0, will the 6.0 hard lines work on my transmission? Same bends, mounting threads to the trans., etc?
Thanks for the help

That will have to be an eyeball decission. Models change so quickly it is difficult keeping up.

The bends are probably similar, the threads going to the trans are different. You might have to pull the engine and trans to remove the old lines and install the new ones.

With a 6.0 cooler you will need fittings for converting. Original is .5" iirc and .75" on 6.0 trucks.
