Hood Struts?

The other day I opened up the hood to add some washer fluid and...wow, it was all heavy like!

Thinking the heat has finally killed my hood struts. Anyone replace them? Tips on how to make the swap easy?

I think "sammie0126" changed her hood struts a few months back. Can find her post about the subject though.

I assume you will need a very good big/long stick to hold the hood up while doing this. You do not want to have the hood coming down on you when the stick didn't get a good stand to hold the hood up.

Hood prop and a flat screw driver. Pop the little c clips off each end if you look closely you will see where to put the screw driver in the notch opposite of the pivot pop them out. Put screw driver between pivot and Stuart apply a little force and it will pop off. To install simply push the new ones on the pivot and your Rollin

Cut a piece of 2x4 to length and use it like an old style prop rod.

How did you keep the hood up when you pulled the strut to replace it?

I had to do my hood struts right after I bought the truck this winter. It was fine the day I bought it and for about a week after, then the temps dropped way down into the single digits and I nearly lost some fingers when the hood dropped. All I did was have the new ones ready to go and swapped out one side at a time with some help from my 5 year old and my pregnant wife, worked out just fine! Not too challenging over all just need some kind of prop stick or a pregnant wife with assistance from a 5 year old

I used a piece of cardboard from the box and used it to protect the shaft of the new one and used vice grips again.
