hi guys. new to forum. just looking for help id'ing this 400 as a Cleveland or w or m
Looking at buy 79 f150 with a 400 engine. but does the 400 come in a Cleveland and modified ? valve covers have 8 bolt and the tag on covers has code D9TE-9C485-BVA.
truck id number is X14SKDJ4474.
There are no "variations" of a 400. It's simply a "400." Ford produced a destroked version called a 351M, but the "M" does not stand for anything (officially). There is also a 351 Cleveland and 351 Windsor. But a 400 is just a 400, regardless of what the Chevy guy at the gas station told you.
Welcome to FTE, lots of good, knowledgeable people here.
VIN X14SKDJ4474
X14=F150 Supercab
S= 400 cu in 2bbl V8
K=Kansas City Assembly Plant
DJ4474=1979 model year sequential serial number
As for the potential of the 400, it depends on who you talk to. Some love it, some hate it.
Here's one article on how to get 500HP. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/e..._engine_build/
