EOT and ECT HELP

Going to be taking my truck on my first big ride towing about 12k and want to make sure my temps stay at a good temp and I don't want to damage anything.

I have bullet proofed the EGR cooler, radiator flush, and changed the coolant to Delco ELC.

I know the EOT should be no more than 15 degrees of the ECT.

But what temp should the EOT and ECT be at? Anything over ??? degrees i should stop and anything below ??? degrees is good.

I am a diesel newbie and trying to get as familiar as possible so thank you for all your help!!

It's 15 degrees at sustained 65 mph unloaded.

Defuel is 221 ECT and 253 EOT

Does that mean i should not exceed temps of 221 ECT and 253 of EOT? If i understand correctly the truck will start defueling at that temp causing the temps to decrease.

So if my truck is running at a EOT of 230 and my ECT is 220 I am okay and have nothing to worry about?

I understand your concern! I tow a 12,500lb fifth wheel. What you will probably see is temps around high 190's to low 200's. on hills, when you "get into" the truck you EOT/ECT will go up, my fan, once ECT hits 210 goes into high gear to assist with cooling, and it knocks the temps back down, EOT will lag behind it. On long pulls I have seen EOT go as high as 218. ECT tipped a little higher.

These temps will not last for long once your fan kicks in, it really does a nice job of knocking the temperature down.

Ambient temps of 80 degrees plus, while towing on level ground at about 70 MPH (My truck likes 70 MPH towing...its not my fault...really) my Edge shows ECT about 198-202, EOT higher some time 5-8 degrees.

The 15 degree split does not really apply the same way while towing as loading on the engine is constantly changing with rises and falls of the road and when you are climbing. There for the engine is heating up and cooling down. Some times very frequently depending on where it is you are driving.

I have found that 5 Weight oil is a great thing for my truck since I tow. The injectors seem to like the lighter weight oil and the truck seems to me to do far better than 10 weight and I won't ever go back to 15 Weight!

You'll feel a bit better once you get going and you monitor your temperatures. If you temps are spiking, and you don't hear the fan, and temps are not coming down, you want to be real careful and get to a place where you can get the temps back down and find out why.

There is plenty of documentation on those subjects. Do you know if you engine has studs or TTY bolts?

What sort of toy are you pulling?
