I bought my 1996 F-350 w/ 5.8 last year knowing the AC was not working. Now I am ready to get it to work cause it's pretty darn hot out. Here is what I got... When I turn on the AC the compressor clutch engages as it normally should, but it doesn't cycle, The compressor stays running the entire time the AC is turned on. It never cycles and of course I got no cold air at all. It is full of refrigerant. Not sure where to start.... Any ideas?
Low Freon would lead me to believe it would cycle rapidly on and off, but it could be low charge, but enough that it's just keeping it engaged.
Best thing to do is see if the hoses are getting cold running from the drier to the compressor. If they are, then perhaps the blend door isn't closing all the way and your actually getting heat with the blower running.
Other than hooking a set of gauges up to it, that's all I can think of as of now.

So the clutch pulls in on the AC unit, which would tell me that it's full of refrigerant. If it was low it either wouldn't pull in or the clutch would keep engaging and disengaging. Are you sure the controller is working properly? Maybe the vent door that switches from heat side to AC side under the dash isn't opening? I haven't had a problem with mine but I thought the Temp controller **** was run on vacuum. Maybe a busted line?
