Fuel Filter Check Valve

I removed the fuel heater to clean the bottom of the bowl and noticed that the spring in the bottom of the check valve assembly is bent pretty good. It's been awhile since I have removed this, is it suppose to be bent?

Last time I installed this I do not remember it being bent or having any trouble getting it inplace.

This shows the heater and the black check valve assembly.

It should not be bent. I believe there is a way to eliminate the assembly, improving flow. That is, assuming you're not a nutter and try to start the truck without a filter.

Nope - just wondering why the darned spring is bent. I think it may have been this way since new, I think even dumb old me would know something was wrong to end up bending that spring like it is. It's all back together now and running fine.

I've seen those springs bent before the first time a fuel bowl comes apart. Like you, I think many are like that from the factory. None I have seen affected performance any. I just chalked it up to one of those things.

You can eliminate the Stand Pipe and Spring (which is constrictive to some extent. How much is debatable. Depends on who's article one reads).
It's the detent felt when installing a new filter (pushing downward with force).

Most I have seen have been deformed (including mine). I assume this happens over time changing the filters and the up & Down of the Stand Pipe.

It's only function is to prevent fuel from leaving the Filter Bowel in the event someone attempted to start the vehicle without a Filter as stated above.
