I have a 98 ranger 3.0. It keeps over heating driving 30-40 mph. If I get on the highway And go 60-70 I have no issues. I changed the plugs no rust. The oil isn't milky which leads me to think its not the head gasket.I think its the fan clutch. It sends coolant into the overflow and blows the cap. Any suggestions would be helpful. I am putting an electric fan in tonight to see if that will help.
Thanks..
See if Autozone will loan you a cooling system pressure gauge. It will check for a leaking cooling system or radiator cap or for a blown headgasket. Very simple to use.

Does it also over heat in stop & go driving???? If so, I agree that the fan clutch belongs on your suspect list. It should spin, but with some resistance, if it spins freely/freewheels, its faulty. But you may have more than one problem, so I'd also include the serp belt, belt tensioner, radiator air flow obstruction, like a plastic bag, varmint or insect nest, collapsing radiator hose, faulty radiator cap, worn water pump vanes, on your suspect list.
Will be interesting to hear what you find, so keep us posted.
