What does it take to bolt on an alternator in place of the stock generator? Were alternators ever used on 223's from the factory? Or do I need to make/modify brackets.....my engine is a '63, but going in an OT project.
Morning Scott, The upper bracket can be reused and I had heard that even the lower bracket was reusable. A piece of all-thread and lock and nuts on both sides.

Hi Rob, I figured I could fab up something.......just wondering if a factory type bracket exists. Maybe from a passenger car engine or something.

From '61 to '64 ('63?), a 60-Amp Leece-Neville alternator was optional on F-100s through F-350s. They were quite rare on 292 V-8s, and probably much rarer on 223 6's. I'm trying to install a period Leece-Neville on my '61 F-350 and, although I've easily found original alternators, finding original brackets for my 292 has been a challenge. Unless you really enjoy tracking down rare items -- I do -- don't waste your time locating original brackets for a 223!
I actually found a bracket available for the Ford tractors of the 50's but it was really universal in nature. Here's my fabbed bracket and mounted on the 223.
