3v V10 Interchangability
OK Bought a Used 08 F350 missing a valve on #2 cyl. Looking for a good used motor in the north Texas area. There out there but the salvage yards are "out There" on their pricing as well. I know there isn't much difference on the 3v motors as they all have the same Vin code Y from 05/10 models, and per ford use the same intake from 05-10/08. I have found a 05 3v with 102k for a smoking price but need to make sure it will fit into my 08. I believe the only change in the 3v V10 motors was spark plug design over the years, no?
Otherwise Gentlemen Rock On.
Ill Keep driving my 79' F150 408 4speed 4X4 till I get a motor lol

I'm no stranger to most any motor. And no it's not a cop.... It runs but if you take the oil filler cap off it dies cause it's sucking so hard!!! I have the early 08 motor so you can hear it pulling air with the cap on. Sounds like a vacuum leak till the cap comes of and it falls hard lol. I'll likely buy the 05 3V and order the good plugs. Was oilfield. So lot of idle hours....

Ok gentleman here after exhausting searching here is what I know for certain. In 05 the 30v V10 was introduced the same short block different heads. After a talk with my buddy at Ford, I have also learned that up until September of 2008, the intake is the same from 2005-2008. So the only difference I have found is that the spark plugs were changed away from the horrible ones... Now to find the new good one piece spark plugs in my area!

Does not exist. The Champions cause misfires. The '08+ plugs do not fit earlier models.
2005 had injector problems that caused hydrolock if not caught in time on some engines.
Maybe it is a smoking deal because it is smoking. High idle times in oil fields is likely to accelerate oil consumption.
Not a lot of price difference between a GOOD Modular engine and a Ford reman sooo...

Your are correct about the 05 injectors being an issue. But they were on the 5.4 as well. Gonna use all the 08 intake and cops. And I Believe the Moto Sp515 are at least a welded design now. So ill stick with motocraft. Always been a fan of OE replacement. Can always say hell these made it this long.
