Square fastener needed

Hey all. On my 64 F100's core support there are 3 or 4 square floating nuts that some vertical braces mount to. I need these nuts. Anyone know if they are available or know the ford p/n. Thanks.

Cage nuts , I got mine from Fastenal Supply . The one here locally doesn't force you to buy the whole box , they can transfer just what you need from other stores or the warehouse

Common on our trucks are the 5/16-18 size.

Are you talking about the ones in the bottom of the core support that the vertical hood supports bolt to in the bottom? They are sort of hidden by the gravel pan where it extends over the core support at the bottom, at least on a 1966.

TA - Yes those are the square cage nuts I need. Core support is at the painters and I never had the originals.

Well, there are a variety of avenues, but by far the cheapest is to go with these.

Are you referring to the four cage nuts that secure the following supports?

Hood Latch Braces Grill Support Ford F 100 F250 F350 1961 62 63 64 65 | eBay

If so, I do believe they are 5/16", but...a pitch finer than 18. Below is a photo of two of mine, with their original bolts, fresh back from the plater. But one of my cages broke and searching on " 5/16" cage nut" turns up lots of 5/16"-18 cage nuts but none of a finer pitch. Obviously you can just swap out the bolt for an 18-pitch, but that would be too easy, at least for me!

You can see the original markings on my nuts' cages.

(And I actually got some of these from Bird's Nest, as suggested by TA455HO. They work fine, just not with my original bolts.)

Good luck,

Steve

The parts manual lists them as 5/16"-24 for the originals.

There you go. Thank you! But finding them is a bit challenging!

Same exact cage nuts are used for the Floor Transmission Cover Plate 1964-1969. Same part number.

So, the cage nuts from Bird nest are 5/16"-18 ???'

Edit: Same cage nuts also used in the tops of those hood support braces like shown in that eBay ad.

I ordered the Bird's Nest cage nuts specifically thinking they were the correct 5/16"-24 parts -- I wish I could recall what led me to that conclusion -- but I received 5/16"-18 cage nuts (in a black oxide finish) that were identical to the 5/16"-18 cage nuts (in a black oxide finish) I bought previously through Fastenal.

I even thought about buying the hood support braces for the cage nuts alone but $20+ bucks was simply ridiculous and the seller didn't want to separate them!

Best,

Steve
