Since I've think i've figured out all my thermostat troubles, have the upper radiator hose replaced. I figure I might as well replace the lower while I'm at it. The thing is 15 years old, it won't last forever.
But, looking at it, it seems like it's a trifle more complicated than a simple hose. From the looks of it it has a 'T' fitting on it. So I'm wondering, how difficult to replace it, and how much does that thing cost?
2000 Ranger 3.0 FFV.
Secondly, what do you look for when looking at the water pump as to it's health. I see a little bit of coolant around the pulley, but it's not dripping.
If it is sh0wing signs of seeping its getting ready to be replaced. Dont know about a hose with a T on it for the lower rad. I always look at autozone.com and go to their manuals and install help if unsure. You can also price out the part while on the website.
Without the T, its just like the upper as far as connections. While at it take a good look at your heater hoses they may be ready for R&R also.
Actually looking at the price I'm suprised by how cheap it is. 22 bucks (maybe not the most reputable source, but I can assume someone like NAPA would sell it for something around 30 bucks.
I kind of assumed that 'T' fitting would jack up the price. although it still doesn't look too easy to replace.
I notice that the Ranger has a fair amount of plumbing under it (and over it for that matter. I probably will replace the heater hoses and the like as well.
Replace all the hoses. Upper, lower, heater hoses plus the little hoses that run from the engine to the throttlebody and from the throttlebody to the heater hoses.
