Hey fellas,
Our 51 has locations just above the column for a manual choke and what I'd call an old school cruise control for the throttle. We don't plan to use either of those features so what to do with those openings? I've been planning to just reinstall the choke and throttle ***** without the linkage and keep them as dummies. Is there something else worthwhile to do with those instead?
On the HELP rack in most parts stores there will be these chrome plugs of different size. Get the size ya need for yer hole and just pop them in. easy pesy.
Hey Tyler,
Our '50's dash was so errr.. modified by previous owners I'm not sure what was stock. I always liked Project 55's truck build titled "Jon's truck" - His 1950 dash is below. You may want to ask him what he did with his?
Personally - We left/put a fully functional lighter in our '50 even though nobody smokes. This comes in real handy for charging phones, Ipads, etc.
I wouldn't leave them blank. How are you handling Apple Iphone connectivity & sound? We put our's in the glove box.
Hey Ben, thanks! We put in a lighter/charger too in the stock location. As far as radio/stereo/iPhone stuff, we've ordered but not yet received the radio pictured below. It fits in the stock opening and is pretty much a replica of the original but has modern electronics/guts with jacks for iPhones, Bluetooth etc. I hope it works out well cuz it wasn't cheap! We are putting in 4 speakers and a subwoofer, but not huge wattage. Building boxes for them to go at kick panels and behind seat. T
Hey Tyler,
My son Zack had the truck up at college for some time last semester & returned it home with a few problems. One of the problems was - He left the emergency brake on & drove around in it not knowing the brake was on. Eventually overheating the back emergency drum so much the pads actually broke off. Hmmmmm...
I'm adding an "Idiot Light" to our dash so next time he leaves the emergency brake on hopefully he'll see the RED light. So.... If you were still looking for something to put in one of those extra spots on the dash.
Young college guys are easily distracted....

That's a great idea Ben. Common sense and situational awareness are typically in short supply during the twenty something decade of life. How does the switchology work for that light?
