Well, can't really remember what the thing is called, bear with me.
I've only driven the 150 three times since just before Thanksgiving, of 2013. It sat long enough, that the battery went dead. When I basically stopped driving it, the oil minder said I had 40% oil life left. Now, today, I thought I'd drive it, and the thing said an oil change was due. Well, ya, likely wouldn't hurt. But I thought this thing worked off mileage, not time.
So, does it work off both?
I found out as well, on a different subject, if the battery dies, the thing looses it's memory. It had been likely 4 months at that time since I drove it. I took off, after jumping it, and the trans would not shift. I have zero idea what gear it was in, but at 55 mph it was taching about 3k. I drove it to the dealer to have it checked out. They told me that some electronic thingy had lost it's memory. Well, they checked it out, found nothing, hence the memory loss thing, and everything magically returned to normal.
Does all this make sense? This thing really isn't my favourite truck of all time, but just wondering if I might be in for more surprises. If so, this thing just might be winding up as history for me.
Your vehicle is equipped with the Intelligent Oil Life Monitor™ (IOLM) system which displays a message in the message center at the proper oil change service interval; this interval may be up to one year or 10,000 miles (16,000 km). When ENGINE OIL CHANGE DUE or OIL CHANGE REQUIRED appears in the message center display, it’s time for an oil change; the oil change must be done within two weeks or 500 miles (800 km) of the ENGINE OIL CHANGE DUE or OIL CHANGE REQUIRED message appearing. The Intelligent Oil Life Monitor™ must be reset after each oil change; refer to the Instrument Cluster chapter.
If your message center is prematurely reset or becomes inoperative, you should perform the oil change interval at six months or 5,000 miles (8,000 km) from your last oil change. Never exceed one year or 10,000 miles (16,000 km) between oil change intervals.
