Well, Logging, road building, mining, and other industries usually remove the stock beds when the trucks are new and install these because they're heavy duty, made of thicker metal than a stock bed, and one will typically outlast several trucks in service. The company may then replace the stock box when/if they sell the truck and the buyer will think it has been babied ." Looks like the box has never been used" not knowing it has been beat like a government mule over washboard and slash all its life. They can be modified by welding or bolting on all kinds of things, like carriers for spare tires, jerry cans, Hi-lift jacks, Tidy-tanks, tool boxes, headache racks and the like. you can personalize them pretty much any way you like, and they really take a beating. And lot of people just like the way they look.
I looked at making one for my truck. Even started buying supplies. Then I got a stock box for $175. Now I have some stuff I don't know what to do with. Been slowly making other things with it.
